Wildlife Connectivity

Wildlife Connectivity

The loss of wildlife corridors is of major concern due to its impact on the survival of wildlife species and exacerbating human-wildlife conflicts. These corridors are critical for species movement between protected areas hence permitting gene flow which ensure the stability of wildlife populations. As human encroach within the wildlife corridors and convert natural habitats for agricultural activities, settlement, grazing and other infrastructural development results into habitat loss, degradation and fragmentation leaving many protected areas into total isolation. Such actions create resource competition between wildlife and human hence exacerbate human-wildlife conflicts.

The HWC Foundation is geared toward working in partnership with Protected Areas Authorities, communities and research organizations to find solutions and build capacity in addressing the problem associated with the loss of wildlife corridors. We do this through raising community awareness on the effect of blocking wildlife corridors; building their capacities on practicing alternative economic livelihoods that reduces the conflicts and researching on spatial and temporal movement of wildlife outside protected areas.
